Fernando Gaviria is having some hard time in winning sprints this year and therefore tries the breakaway in a hilly stage. No real chances for him but at 40kms to go he tries a breakaway from the breakaway and hits the ground. Meaning that he hit the road and fell. In the end he was 9th which for a sprinter is a good result
Winner of the stage was Victor LAFAY, second was Francesco GAVAZZI and third Niklas ARNDT.
Finally Marco Esteri’s LUPUPU take a stage victory alone and not matched with his cycling partners and climbs to the third position in the GC.
4 stage victories for a rookie in his first year is quite a lot and we are not even halfway in the Giro
In the mountains Michele Bellon’s Trattoria Al Curvone 2 wins another mountain stage and he has now a new record on his head: scoring points on each stage where there were mountain points (so far). And he now sits second in the mountains between Marco Algieri’s Sempre Mercatone Uno and Alice’s RUGGI team
Tomorrow is the first real mountain stage so we might have some changes in GC
