The President of the Fantasy Cycling games is back.

The fantasy cycling tool is fully automated except for the stage comments and this is a pity since we are always late in reports and sometimes miss the stage.

It happened again on this Tour, besides the help of Giacomo in writing reports. I need to think of a solution… one could be that the reporting is done by multiple users… if you are willing to write some reports, come back to me on the comments sessions.

 

A recap of the tour:

Pogacar: 10+

5th tour victory with 5 stage wins ( 26 in total) + 1 gifted to Del Toro, another left to Evenepoel, a third lost for supporting del Toro versus Carapaz, a fourth in Paris dropped in the last km

Whilst doing this he also smashed by 1’22” the record of Pantani on Alpe d’Huez

Vingegaard: 6

falling on the flat part after a descent and retiring (but he was already 3 minutes down) and winning the first stage

Evenepoel: 7

Wins the time trial and a mountain stage (courtesy gift of Pogacar to support Del Toro) – attacks on the last mountain stage but too late to get something

Second overall (best of humans), will probably win a grand tour if Pogacar is not there

Carapaz: 9

Three days in the Alps attacking everywhere (1st, 3rd, 1st). On Thursday morning he was 12th at 24 minutes… on Sunday he was 8th at 20 minutes… probably the only rider to have gained some minutes to Pogacar.

He gained so many mountain points in this weekend to win the polka dot KOM jersey again

Del Toro: 5

He won a stage (and that’s the reason for the 5 and not 4) and could get to 3rd overall only because Pogacar run as a Gregario for him at least twice… see you next year

Ayuso: 3

Escaped from UAE because he thought he was an unsepressed alternative to Pogacar… he remains unespressed

Pedersen: 8

1 stage win and green jersey and on the attack where you were expecting him. World Champion in 2019 (he was unknown then), he is unlucky… after him, a generation fo world champions you cannot compete against

Van der Poel 10:

2 stage wins, and an heart breaking attack on the last stage in Paris, he pushed so much that he could not even raise his hands in sign of victory. The only real contender to Pogacar in one day races, classics and semiclassics

Tim Merlier: 9

He is the best sprinter in town.. but the tour had too few sprints

 

The game

22 teams took part of this year’s game… it was launched very late (apologies for that). The platform is pretty solid and can use multiple types of classifications.

In continuity with Rene’s De Longhi Tour the classification was the sum of Stage placements and GC placements

Yellow Jersey:

8 stage victories and the final Yellow Jersey for Fred De witt’s White Tornadoes – You are now in the hall of fame of the giro (i will publish it somewhere sometime)
Fred also shows a curious record: he had 9 out of 10 riders in the last day classification

He wins with 80 points lead on Ale Roggia’s Renz Team who wins 5 stages in the meantime

Third is Rene Van Noort (at his uncountable podium) with 2 stage victories

 

Stage victories also for Joeren Vandeput’s Molteni (4), Giacomo Salmoiraghi’s Scott cycling team (4), Davide Guarisco’s Scatto Timido Team (3),  Jeannette Kleijne’s Piccolo65  (2) and Pablo Alvarez Oliveri’s SANTANDER , Andrea Munissso’s BUCANERO, Ed’s Bikey McBikeface , Daniele’s I’m still tired after the giro, Barcollo ma non mollo’s El tiburon  with 1 each

Black Jersey for Marco Livio’s Marco Team  who probably did not read the rules of the game

 

KOM – Mountains

A new classification this year on the mountains (it’s automatic and it’s free…)

A complete Dutch dominance with 3 dutch teams in the top 3 positions distanced by only 9 points. This is odd because there are no mountains in the Netherlands
