17th Fantagiro – Stage 4

Richard Carapaz wins his second career stage at the Giro D’Italia launching a long sprint in front of favourite of the day Diego Ulissi (3rd)

In the middle we have Caleb Ewan, a sprinter that survived a slightly uphill finish.

Then comes Ackermann 4th and no sign of any other sprinter

Stage Comments

A long breakaway today (Frapporti, Maestri and Cima), that grabbed some points on the only mountain of the day and that was captured by the group at 10 km from the arrival.

At – 6km a fall broke the peloton and Dumoulin was injured and lost more than 4 minutes. Also Landa , Sivakov and O’connor lost some time

Roglic on the other hand was in the small group that gained 18 seconds on anybody else, extending his maglia rosa lead.

…You could hear him screaming, shouting and jumping…. everybody was asking what was going on… somebody even called the police… It was Andrea Agostinelli who had Mirco Maestri in his Galacticos team. His dream of a solitary win broke with only 10kms to go… and then you could hear him crying in desperation….

Stage victory to the tandem:

  • Massimiliano Cividini‘s “scappati di casa” – last year he won the Black Jersey, now he is running for Pink
  • Alessio Ciardi‘s Lasonil Spalmer – Alessio is no newbie and…. winner of the 2019 edition and now again in Maglia Rosa

We also have a new contender – Alessandro Roggiani with his “Roggia Team” who has been penalized 25 points for his late submission and now is sitting in 21st position. Welcome Alessandro.

At the back end we have Michele Bellon proudly running for Black Jersey and Just in front of him Lorenzo Bergamo‘s “perfect wave”. Lorenzo is an old member of the club of the Fantagiro, one of those who took part of the first edition. He disappeared for a few years and now he is back. You’ve got to get back to speed here…..

The Mountains:

The only team to score points was Andrea Agostinelli‘s Galacticos, thanks to Mirco Maestri (yes, you managed to bring something home in the end)
