Stage Comments
The stage lit up on the first climb with a breakaway of 20 riders that included all the GC men.
They eventually were captured and nothing happened until Colle San Carlo, except the usual breakaway of Ciccone who fills up the tank of mountain points.
On the San Carlo some attacks happened with Carapaz taking 35 second at the top and keeping them till the end of the descent.
At this point Nibali and Roglic looked at each other letting Yates get back (and distance them) and letting almost two minutes to Carapaz who is the new Maglia Rosa
Fantagiro
As in the real Giro, also in Fantagiro we have a change in the GC where Claudio Mandressi has to leave leadership to the twin-set of Alessio Ciardi and Massimiliano Cividini, new leaders.
The stage was won by Andrea Quercioli‘s Quercia is back. Andrea is a constant player since 2011 and has so far won twice the mountain classification and once the “most stage victories”.
Andrea also wins the mountain stage, moving to third in the Mountain classification
