17th Fantagiro – Stage 9

An individual Time Trial with the first and only stage outside Italy (San Marino)

  1. Primos ROGLIC – As expected, now second in GC
  2. Victor CAMPENAERTS – Recent “Hour Record” breaker
  3. Bauke MOLLEMA – Surprise 3rd place

Stage details

It was an individual time trial soaked in rain. As expected in reshuffled the general classification

Nibali was able to hold fourth position losing 1 minute to Roglic – Now sitting at 2 minutes from Roglic

Yates lost more than 3 minutes today (now almost 4 minutes from Roglic in GC). He was beaten even by a few seconds by Landa (notably a terrible time-trialist). Landa is now almost 5 minutes down in GC)

The other GC contender Miguel Angel Lopez, lost 3:45 today and is sitting at 4:30 in GC

Fantagiro

After first week dominated by sprinters, the big names showed up and we have a new stage winner

Rookie’s day with Stefano Bernasconi’s Longobarda was the stage winner

There is a discussion between Stefano and his deskmate Marco Algieri‘s Mercatone Uno: Marco claims that Stefano has copied the team form his. Stefano claims he sent the team before Marco. As a matter of fact the teams are different, so I have to close the discussion

In the General Classification, Claudio Mandressi is slowly extending the lead on the rest of the contenders…

At the far bottom, the Black Jersey is again in the hands of Michele Bellon

More to come

Mountains:

A group of 4 teams won the stage today:

  • Fred De Witt‘s The White Tornados – thanks to Mollema we keep the Dutch flag high
  • JR Weinberg‘s Twin Palms – Goods to see a former giro winner back on track
  • Antonio Salmoiraghi‘s Cepina – a reason of joy versus your son
  • Edward Caley‘s Brexit Exile – welcome back after stage 1 victory

The battle for the mountain leadership continues:

Matteo Borghi‘s Atletico Caslangeles takes the lead again together with Marco Viganò‘s KOM team. There seems to be a close battle here
